MIL-DTL-70951A (AR)
e. Lack of weld penetration
f. Slag
g. Incomplete fusion
h. The requirement for porosity shall be in accordance with AWS D9.1. The visual
inspection of welds shall be in accordance with AWS B1.10.
3.5.2 Weld coupon bend test. The guided specimens shall have no open discontinuities
exceeding 1/8 in. (3.2mm) measured in any direction on the convex surface of the specimen after
bending, except that cracks occurring on the corners shall not be considered, unless there is
definite evidence that they result from slag inclusions or other internal discontinuities.
3.6 Unit load tests. The unit loaded pallets shall conform to the requirements specified in
MIL-STD-1660 with the following exceptions:
3.6.1 Repetitive shock test. Damage including dents, paint chipping, or the crushing of
members which do not impair the function of the container are not causes for rejection.
However, all damage shall be noted for information purposes. The pallets shall not exhibit the
following:
a. Functional or physical damage to the contents.
b. Functional damage to the container.
c. Shock forces on the contents (or dummy load) which exceeds the established fragility
of the contents.
d. Structural damage to the container which may result in damage to the contents during
subsequent shipping, handling, or storage. Substantial spillage, exposure, or shifting of the
contents are examples of such damage.
3.6.2 Edgewise drop (rotational) test. Minor damage such as dents, paint chipping, or the
crushing of members which do not impair the function of the container are not causes for
rejection. However, all damage shall be noted for information purposes. The pallets shall not
exhibit the following:
a. Functional or physical damage to the contents.
b. Internal and/or external functional damage to the container.
c. Shock forces on the contents (or dummy load) which exceeds the established fragility
of the contents.
d. Structural damage to the container which may result in damage to the contents during
subsequent shipping, handling, or storage. Substantial spillage, exposure, or shifting of the
contents are examples of such damage.
3.6.3 Incline impact test. Minor damage such as dents, paint chipping, or the crushing of
members which do not impair the function of the container are not causes for rejection.
However, all damage shall be noted for information purposes. The pallets shall not exhibit the
following:
a. Functional or physical damage to the container and/or contents (except a dummy load).
